PROSPECTUS:  NUESTRA COMIDA / OUR FOOD

This traveling exhibition has been organized by the Archivo Fotográfico Indigena (AFI) / Indigenous Photography Archive, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México. The exhibition shows aspects of food and culture in indigenous communities as seen by men and women Mayan photographers from two ethnic/language groups of Chiapas.

AFI is an artistic and educational project by and for indigenous photographers in Chiapas. Since 1995 AFI has been the principal activity of the Chiapas Photography Project, which Carlota Duarte started in 1992 with donations from friends. Its unique intention of not imposing visual standards and its commitment to create and maintain a collection of photographs, has encouraged the participation of more than 200 indigenous men and women of various ethnic groups. With major funding by the Ford Foundation, AFI has been able to develop four main areas of activity: education, collection, outreach and research.
