About the Archivo Fotográfico Indígena (AFI)

Carlota Duarte founded the Archivo Fotográfico Indígena (Indigenous Photo Archive) in 1996 as a place to store, catalogue, and provide access to images from the collection generated by CPP training programs. The archive is located at the Center for Research and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology-Southeast (CIESAS), an academic research center in San Cristóbal de Las Casas.

The Archive is staffed by indigenous photographers who are also CPP participants. Each staff member has received special training in basic archive management and computer technology. AFI facilities include a darkroom for use by CPP photographers, interns and volunteers.
